The National Scholastic Surfing Championships heads south to Kaikoura this October, a first for the event in its 32 year history.
The event, which has unearthed two generations of top Kiwi talent, takes place at the world renowned break of Meatworks, located north of the Kaikoura township.
The National Scholastic Championships comprises seven age group divisions for males and females across both shortboard and longboard disciplines.
Twelves regional teams from throughout the country will converge on the idyllic seaside resort as they vie for both individual titles as well as the overall team title.
Waikato is the defending champion at the event having won the event in home waters in 2019.
Over 120 surfers are expected to contest the event in 2020 after having qualified to represent their twelve person teams via a series of regional events held over winter.
The 2020 National Scholastic Surfing Championships is sanctioned by Surfing New Zealand, the Secondary School Sport NZ and supported by the New Zealand Sports Collective and Sky Sport Next.
